Security Architects was founded in San Diego, California in 1999.

The company offers advanced security solutions to organizations and individuals needing to secure their networks and systems - security products alongside professional services ranging from penetration testing and code auditing to tailor-made security courses.

Who does the work

Eugene Tsyrklevich and Joseph Wolff founded Security Architects in 1999, in the city where Eugene had taken both his degrees in computer science. In 2005 he presented Ozone at Black Hat USA under the title “Ozone HIPS: Unbreakable Windows”: address-space randomisation to blunt buffer overflows, and a sandbox around every process that limited what a compromised one could do. Windows itself would not ship either idea until Vista, two years later. Eugene has since founded Parkopedia.

Joe Wolff, Co-founder and CEO, still does the work himself. That is the arrangement: you talk to the person who reads your configuration, writes the findings, and answers the phone when something is wrong at two in the morning.

It also means the tools on this site are not a catalogue. Every one of them was built to solve a problem in front of us and is still running in our own infrastructure. The sandbox confines the AI agents that built this website. The tunnel carries our own fleet. The firewall gateway has guarded our production gateways since 2007. When we write about how something failed, it failed here first.

Our original flagship product, Ozone, was a Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) that protected server and client machines from both known and unknown attacks. Rather than chasing an endless stream of “bad behaviour” signatures, Ozone enforced good behaviour - a least-privilege, policy-driven approach that anticipated today’s zero-trust and application-allowlisting technologies by two decades. In 2004 the Ozone agent was released free of charge, kernel source code included.
